BEGINNING VISUAL BASIC EXPRESS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS <Table of Contents> is a self-paced semester long self-paced “beginning” programming tutorial consisting of 10 Chapters explaining (in simple, easy-to-follow terms) how to build a Visual Basic Express Windows application. Students learn about project design, the Visual Basic Express toolbox, and many elements of the BASIC language.  Numerous examples are used to demonstrate every step in the building process.  The tutorial also includes several detailed computer projects for students to build and try.

The projects built include a number guessing game, a card game, an allowance calculator, a drawing program, a state capitals game, and a kid-friendly  video game  called Pong.   We have also included the source code to several college prep bonus projects including a  loan calculator,   portfolio manager,  and a checkbook balancer to get you ready for college.  For after-school fun we also added several classic David Ahl Basic Computer Games updated to Visual Basic: Acey Ducey, MUGWUMP, Lunar Lander, and Even Wins.<Project Screen Shots>.

BEGINNING VISUAL BASIC EXPRESS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS is presented using a combination of  over 500 pages of course notes and actual Visual Basic Express examples.   No prior programming experience is necessary, but familiarity with doing common tasks using Microsoft Windows is expected.  A separate Teachers Guide is NOT required as the course is completely self-paced and self-learning.  The book actually teaches the student to program so the parent does not need to learn programming or teach programming to the homeschool student.

The course requires Windows 2000, NT, XP, Vista or Windows 7, ability to view and print documents saved in Microsoft Word format, and Visual Basic 2010 Express (the course can also be completed using Visual Basic Standard or Professional 2010).   Click here to view previous versions (e.g. 2008/2005, .Net, v5/6) of this tutorial.

We have partnered with the Microsoft® DreamSpark® program to support and advance students learning and skills development, by providing high school students the latest developer and design software from Microsoft, at no additional cost.  Click here for more information on this annual DreamSpark subscription program.

ORDERING AND DELIVERY OPTIONS

You have the option of ordering this tutorial in a paperback textbook format which includes a free E-Tutorial E-Book Internet download OR you can save printing costs and order just a E-Tutorial E-Book Internet download. This tutorial is currently delivered in a Microsoft Word (v97+) and Acrobat PDF format. The PDF version of this book is downloadable to any portable device that can view the Acrobat PDF format.   The entire E-Book and/or selected chapters can be printed on your local printer and/or viewed on your computer screen. The E-Books can be downloaded from our website immediately after purchase and/or we can ship them to you on a CD via USPS First Class Mail. Customers who use a slow satellite or dial up connection to access the internet usually order the CD add-on Delivery option because the Tutorials are rather large (over 10MB+) to download over a slow link. Both the High Speed Internet Download option and the Shipped CD option contain the tutorial and all the completed language source code solution files in their native format. We compress all these files using a .zip format to help reduce the size of files for faster downloading.

BEGINNING VISUAL BASIC EXPRESS –CUSTOMER COMMENTS:

“Both my daughter and son (aged 12 and 14 respectively) are going through the Beginning Visual Basic Express 2010 for High School Students course as a supplement to their regular public-school education. Though they have not yet finished the course, they have both expressed to me that the writing is very clear and the instructions are step-by-step. They appreciate that the concepts are very clearly defined. I have looked for other means of teaching my kids how to write computer programs and this course is by far the best.”
